The construction of a new library and study centre at St. John’s College was a major new development for the college, with the previous library buildings being housed in the Canterbury Quad, a quadrangle of buildings dating back to the 16th Century.
The project team faced several logistical health and safety issues as the library remained operational throughout the works. The age of the site also meant that there was little available space, with walled gardens and occupied university buildings in every direction in the immediate vicinity. All health and safety risks were successfully mitigated by the team.
