The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge is an extensive hotel development of 1,054 luxurious, self-contained studio guestrooms over 14 storeys.
With an impressive swimming pool and health spa, and a variety of restaurants and retail outlets, the hotel is a focal point in the regeneration of London’s South Bank.
Health and safety issues during the project included ensuring the coordination of a large number of workers on site simultaneously (650 at the peak), the delivery and removal of materials including huge vierendeel steel frames, and the site location on a busy London roundabout.
Various complex building methods were used during the construction including tunnel forming with a single concrete pour to create perfectly aligned casts.
1 year was cut from the construction programme due to pioneering construction methods, and 20% extra area including 200 additional bedrooms and suites were re‐designed into the project.
