The refurbishment of the Mayville Community Centre in Islington was the first certified non-domestic Passivhaus Retrofit project in the UK. A leading German standard for low energy, low carbon designs, buildings designed using this method can consume up to 75% less energy than buildings complying to current standard UK building regulations.
Such a method of construction required a high level of support with continual monitoring of practices throughout and thorough on site training for contractors. The building went on to win a number of awards including the Green Build Awards Best Leisure Building 2012 and Construction and Excellence Awards Building Performance 2012.
